HIV/AIDS
This small project supports GP involvement in multidisciplinary case conferences for People Living with HIV / AIDS. The monthly meeting include GP HIV s100 prescribers, visiting RNSH Infectious Diseases Director and members of the CHHC Sexual Health Team (HIC CNC, Counsellor and Educator). The meeting is also attended by a student from our Rural Clinical School, and occasionally a Resident. An increasing number of patients present with complex social needs as well as their illness. The meeting is an accepted CPD activity for the prescribers, without which, most would struggle to attain their necessary “points” without having to travel to capital cities several times a year.
The project supports data collection for the Australian HIV Observational Database, soon to be integrated with a world wide project. There is also provision for the project to support educational activities and distant home visits.
In its small way, the project contributes to the management of these often complex patients and supports the doctors who provide services to this group.
