Media, Marketing and Communications

Since 2000, the Division has conducted a range fo Media, Marketing and Communications activities, including dedicated projects and Media, Marketing and Communications officers.  The aim of this program has been to raise the profile of General Practice and the Division activities in the media; support health promotion campaigns, inform the community and GPs of developments in the field of General Practice that impact upon the delivery of care and community wellbeing; seek input from the community, General Practice and other stakeholders in the future direction of Division activities; utilise the media as a mechanism to advocate on behalf of GPs and the Community they serve; and to raise support for Division activities.

The Division has partnered with Regional Newspaper publishers to provide weekly GP Health columns; responded to numerous electronic and newspaper media inquiries, conducted program and health media campaigns, published Division monthly General Practice Newsletter magazines and weekly GP focus newsletters.  In recent years, the limited discretationary funding available to the Division to maintain a dedicated program officer and publications has been reduced.  As a result, the Division now maintains a weekly GP Newsletter publication, practice and program newsletter publications distributed to GPs and health partners (Palliative Care, Immunisation, Practice Support, Aged Care, Practice Nurse Support, Quality use of Medicines etc).  In addition, the Division keeps General Practice and support partners informed of developments that will impact upon their service delivery via regular Fax distribution news items; email distribution lists, website forums and advisory meetings.

The authorised media liaison officer representing the Division, particularly in relation to health issues of a clinical nature, is the Division Medical Director, Dr Helena Johnston.  The Division Chairmain, Dr John Kramer and CEO, Peter Spence, supports Dr Johnston in this role.
